Dr. Gobinathan holds an MBBS degree from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore, awarded in January 1996 by The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University. He earned his MD in Paediatrics in March 2002 from the Institute of Child Health, Chennai. In November 2005, he achieved the MRCPCH qualification from the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health, UK.
Dr. Gobinathan’s professional journey includes working as a Registrar in Paediatric Nephrology at the prestigious Great Ormond Street University Hospital (GOSH), London, where he also trained for six months in pediatric subspecialties such as Gastroenterology, Neurology, Haematology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation. He further trained in Neonatology at Aberdeen University Hospital, Scotland, a leading tertiary referral center in Europe. With seven years of training in the UK and membership in the RCPCH, he currently serves as a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at Kurinji Hospital and Genesis Women & Child Care Centre in Coimbatore. He also held leadership roles as Secretary for the Neonatology Forum in Coimbatore in 2013 and Treasurer for KovaiNeocon in 2014.
Dr. Gobinathan has extensive teaching experience, having mentored final-year MBBS students and house officers during his postgraduate days at the Institute of Child Health, Chennai. In the UK, he contributed to training senior house officers and medical students as part of the RCPCH’s structured training program. His passion for education fuels his career objective to work in a teaching hospital, with a particular focus on advancing Paediatric Nephrology.
His professional training includes attending numerous specialized courses and international conferences. Notable among these are the International CME on Paediatric Hypertension & Vasculitis held in Kolkata in April 2014, the 15th Annual Asia LSD Symposium in Chiba, Japan in November 2013, and the American Society of Nephrology Conference in Philadelphia, USA in June 2008. In the UK, he completed the Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program in Aberdeen in January 2006, the Paediatric Dermatology Conference in Birmingham in June 2007, and studied Evidence-Based Medicine and Research Methodology in Chennai in March 2004. Dr. Gobinathan also enhanced his management skills through courses in Negotiation Skills, Conflict Resolution, and Presentation Skills for Healthcare Professionals in the UK in 2005.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gobinathan has delivered presentations both in the UK and India. In the UK, his topics included neonatal thrombocytopenia, inborn errors of metabolism, asthma severity, and electrolyte imbalances in neonates. In India, he has presented on neonatal hypocalcaemia, leptospirosis in children, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia at various regional and national conferences.
His research undertakings include a dissertation focused on evaluating the latex agglutination test for diagnosing leptospirosis in children, conducted at the Institute of Child Health in Chennai. Additionally, he has contributed a chapter on "Steroid Sensitive Nephrotic Syndrome" in the Textbook of Paediatric Nephrology, Volume 2. He has also led audits related to the management of pleural effusion, initial administration of antibiotics, and discharge letter protocols.
